Halfway there!
Lines, shapes, space, colors, and textures. These are the elements of art. MDCS students have been learning all about the elements of art and how to combine them with the principles of art in creative ways.
During this past term emphasis has been on building skills while working with a variety of media. Drawing with oil pastels, painting, collage, clay, paper mache and cardboard sculpture all involve unique processes and students are developing the skills and techniques that allow for their personal expression.
Along with the production of art, students are exposed to artists and artistic styles throughout history. Recently the fifth graders had a lively discussion while sorting a variety of art prints into the categories of realism, abstract, and non-objective. Their current art project will combine all three types, each with a different media.
Plans are in the making for student art exhibits in the spring. I will be saving art work for those shows so we will have quite a lot of variety and every child will have work on display. Check out the examples on this page.
If you are looking for something different on the internet, I suggest checking out the following two sites. Both allow for the fun creation of pictures in the style of a great artist.
