Dear Parents,
It’s the start of another school year, and once again we are all excited to be coming back.
Yesterday, the State Board of Education approved the ABC testing data from the 2009-10 testing cycle. I am pleased to report that we did very well. Our performance composite is up 11.7% to 84.6%. In addition, we met both expected and high growth. This dramatically improved performance was beyond even our most optimistic expectations. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to the entire MDCS community. It took the efforts of students, staff, and parents to achieve this level of success.
We have a few staffing changes to announce as we begin the new school year. We have hired Linda Goggin to teach music. I was excited about working with Linda in this capacity when we hired her in June. My anticipation has only increased as I have worked with her over the summer as she plans for the upcoming year. Please refer to her biography to read more about our wonderful music teacher.
Simeon Hickman will be our new after school coordinator and building substitute teacher. Sim is a National Board Certified teacher who has returned to school to get his masters. He taught at Summit Charter School for several years and has experience coaching soccer and baseball teams. I am very excited to work with Sim and look forward to supporting him as he develops our after school program.
The last major change involves our EC assistant, Sarah Rave. In working with Sarah on the website and in house IT issues, I have come to realize that she is an extremely capable person, and have given her the task of teaching sixth and seventh grade computer skills. Like Linda, Sarah is busy planning and I am just as excited to see what she will offer her students over the course of the coming year.
It is my sincere honor to serve you in as director of MDCS and I can't wait for the adventure of the 2010-11 school year. If you have questions about any of these new developments or anything else, please do not hesitate to call me at 488-1222.
Sincerely,
Carter Petty
