Great Smoky Mountain Park’s Ranger Jay Visits!

On January 26, Ranger Jay visited the MDCS 5th grade classroom and showed us how easy it is to create parts of weather station for just pennies. After first reviewing wind and weather movement in the Smokies and how wind moves across the USA, small groups of students made weather vanes and anemometers. We took these weather station tools outside and measured the direction and speed of the morning breeze. Later in the day we made barometers using jars and balloons. We will keep track of the air pressure in our room for the next 4 days and make observations using our weather station tools on our weather charts. What an awesome way to learn about weather station tools!
