Exploring Our World
The middle school Language Arts/Social Studies curriculum is centered on the MDCS experiential principles. Our goal is to challenge each and every student and, at the same time, develop a life long love of learning in every student. We spend the year exploring many parts of the world by following the North Carolina Standards for each grade, but doing it in a way that is fun and interactive. We incorporate hands on projects, expeditions, writing, reading, and research during our world explorations of Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, and North Carolina.
Our educational philosophy in the LA/SS classroom is to prepare our students to survive in a technologically advanced 21st century. We strive to prepare our students to be able to communicate effectively through an intensive writing program as well as constant social interaction and group activities. Our students will learn to create and think for themselves, to find solutions to problems which they may be facing in their futures, and to overcome individual learning challenges which they may face. Thinking, writing, researching, interacting, and implementing are the keys to the foundation of our children’s futures.
