Technology Presentations
Technology is a part of modern life that is hard to ignore. This document was made with it. If you wear glasses, you are reading with it. The clothes we wear are made with it. It is everywhere, and in accordance with the North Carolina Standard Course of study, we are going to learn much about it. In order to get a better understanding of what technology is all about, what it really is, we will be spending the next few weeks looking at the processes that go into producing something technological. This will culminate with a project of your choosing (with my help) that you will explain to the class.
Students will work in pairs. Partners, make sure you have each other’s phone numbers so you can communicate effectively.
Medium: This presentation will have two parts: A description of the technology on poster board, plus some kind of 3-D model or demonstration.
Length of presentation: 5 to 10 minutes, plus time for questions. This will include a description or demonstration of the project you and your partner have put together, where this example of technology is found in modern society, and how it affects us. Does it make life easier? Longer? Does it help accomplish certain tasks more quickly or conveniently? These are the kinds of questions you will want to address.
Topic: Pick any technological leap forward from the 20th century (or early 21st). Describe how it works, and the historical time in which this “leap” happened. How did this invention affect the time period in which it was introduced? How did it influence technologies that came later? How does it affect us today?
Technology and Society: Make sure to note Pro’s and Con’s (i.e. TRADE OFF’S) of this technology. For example, cars help us get from place to place more quickly. That can be helpful. But is there something that cars do that is not helpful, or even harmful, that we have to learn to live with?
Topics are due this Friday, October 12 Presentations due: Thursday, November 1 Put this date in your planners
