Sixth Grade Trip to Lost Sea Caverns
In conjunction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and earth science curriculum, the MDCS 6th grade will be taking an overnight field trip this spring to Lost Sea Caverns in Tennessee. This field trip will include both the standard caverns tour and an extended, wild cave spelunking tour. While there, we will be viewing formations learned about in class and reviewing how these are formed over millions of years by forces of erosion and precipitation. Students will spend the night inside the cave. Parent chaperones are invited to attend. On their way to Lost Sea Caverns, the 6th graders will stop at several sites in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to view some of the exposed geologic formations that make up the park’s “basement”. This trip should happen some time in late March.
More to follow.
